Tsong Khapa's Festival
It falls on the 15th of the 10th month of the Tibetan calendar.
The Tsong Khapa's Festival, also known as Tsong Khapa Butter Lamp Festival, marks the anniversary of the death of Tsong Khapa, the founder of Gelukpa Sect. On this night, countless butter lamps are lit on the rooftops of houses and temples, and prayers are chanted, to memorialize the passing away of Tsong Khapa, who was a great religious reformer and adept in Buddhism. It is a religious service with illumination. |
