The
Mongols in Yunnan are the
descendants of the war in
Yuan Dynasty , it totally
has 13 thousand people inhabiting
in the Xingmenxiang of Tonghai
County, they can speak the
Yi and Han languages, and
also the Mongolian which mostly
can be understood by those
in north. They have the same
dresses as the Mongols in
north. The Feast is the well-known
"Nadam Fair".
Xingmeng Mongolia Nationality Township is situated under the foot of Fenghuang Mountain and is the only dwelling area of Mongolia nationality in Yunnan. It has a history of more than a thousand years with unique ethnic culture. There are about 20 scenic spots here, including Sansheng Temple where three saints of Mongolia nationality are worshiped, Sanjiao Temple, Xiaohaitan Pond and Minority Ethnic Culture Garden, which draw numerous visitors from home and abroad. The fames of “Mongolia in South Plateau”, “Home of Songs and Dances”, “Home of Architecture” and “Home of Muskmelon” make the town an attractive destination. Through the promotion of “Mongolia in South Plateau” and improvement of the construction of scenic spots and comprehensive facilities, Xingmeng now has become a tourism zone for sightseeing, recreation, holiday and experience of minority ethnic culture.
Xingmeng has rich tourism resources and convenient transportation. The climate here is agreeable round the year and the ethnic culture here is unique. The Mongolian group in Tonghai has experienced the transition from herdsmen to fishermen to farmers in history and has formed their unique Sandieshui outfits, Gazhuo language and delicacies such as “three dishes” and “three cup liquors”. Besides, the town lies in the transportation pivot of central Yunnan and quality tourism line and the potential of ethnic culture tourism is increasing with a reception of about 6,000 foreign visitors and more than 10,000 home visitors every year.
