Follow Mr.Ernest Wilson's Route to The Botanical Heaven |
Ernest H. Wilson, a famous British Botanist, born in 1876. As a member of the Royal Academy, during 1899 - 1912, he visited China for 4 times in 8 years. He worked along this way and collected more than 6,500 plants, about 20,000 specimens, more than 1,000 plants' seeds and more than 100 root cuts. He discovered about 100 new plants in this area and published several books.
The province of Sichuan is renowned amongst the world's naturalists as one of the earth's most outstanding wild places, with Giant Pandas, a superb variety of birds including many endemic species, and an extraordinarily diverse flora all concentrated in an area of scenic splendor.

Drive 130 km from Chengdu to Wolong Natural Reserve where more than 100 giant pandas live in an area about 200,000 hectares. Beautiful mountains, deep valleys, waterfalls, springs, primitive forests, mild climate and fresh air provide the pandas a happy home. We will see the pandas in the nature reserve and stay in a guesthouse there.

Drive 50 km from Wolong to Siguniang ( Four Girls) Mountain Nature Reserve. The mountain is the second highest mountain (6250 m) in Sichuan. Visit Double-Bridge Valley, Zhangpin Valley etc. With an elevation of 2000m to 6250m, Siguniang Mountain is a botanical heaven. Stay in the local guesthouse.

Take a botanical expedition Siguniang Mountain. Wilson discovered a famous tree here, the Cupressus chengiana. He was surprised for the well growing of this tree in the dried valley area.

Drive 80 km from Siguniang Mountain to Xiaojin along the Mingjiang River valley. Visit the 19th century Cathedral. Then drive 128 km to Markang, en route you will cross a 4200 m mountain pass, and see large areas of primitive forests. Stay in a 2 star hotel. |

Drive 170 km from Markang to Hongyuan, en route enjoy the vast grassland secnery, in summer time each year, the Tibetans will come here to have a Horse Racing Festival. Stay in a 1 star hotel.

Visit the Lama Temple and take your botanical & ecological expedition on the large glassy plain. Stay in the 1 star hotel. |

Drive 230 km from Hongyuan to Songpan Old Town. Wilson visited Songpan in 1906. He praised the Tibetan style buildings and the honest and friendly Tibetan people here. Stay in a 2 star hotel. |

Drive 160 km from Songpan to Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve which is a World Natural Heritage. With its beautiful scenes, un-disturbed primitive forest, many rare plants & animals, it is known as one of the "Panda Fairyland". Stay at a 3 star hotel. |

Sightseeing in the nature reserve, after dinner, enjoy a Tibetan folk dance show in your hotel. |

Drive from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong(Yellow Dragon) Nature Reserve which is also a World Natural Heritage. The scenery here is quite like that in Yellow Stone National Park of USA. After sightseeing in the reserve, stay in a 2 star hotel. |

Drive from Huanglong to Maoxian which is the only Qiang autonomous county in China. Visit the Qiang Style Castle. Stay at a 2 star hotel. |

Drive from Maoxian to Dujiangyan, visit the irrigation system built 2200 years ago and still works today. This is also a World Cultural Heritage. Wilson visited Dujiangyan in 1908. He discovered the beautiful Lilium here and brought it back to Britain. Wilson spent 7 days in Mingjiang River Valley to record the 7,000 Lilium plants. Stay in a 3 star hotel. |

Take a botanical expedition in Qingcheng Mountain which is a holy land of Chinese Taoism. Then drive back to Chengdu, Stay in a 4 star hotel. Enjoy the famous hot pot dinner. |
