Days Trekking in Tiger Leaping
Gorge
|
|
| Tucked between the Yulong (Jade Dragon) Snow Mountain and the Haba
Mountains, Tiger Leaping Gorge
offers one of the most attractive
trekking in Southwest China.
A thunderous roar of the gushing
river welcomes you as you
approach the 16-kilometer
gorge, which runs along the
upper reaches of the Yangtze
River. Starting in Kunming,
the capital of Yunnan province,
this tour will first take
you to Lijiang, a delightful
Naxi town located near the
Tibetan border, before entering
the spectacular gorge via
roads set among terraced hills.
From here you will walk along
enchanting - and at times
hair raising - paths overlooking
a fall of 800 meters (689
ft) and a series of more than
twenty rapids. Walking through
dramatic mountain hamlets,
you will arrive at a charming
village to wind down and enjoy
a hearty meal before continuing
with your hike. |

ancient Naxi town north

Haba
Village To Zhongdian
via White Water Terrace
Today we continue on
by car to White Water
Terrace, where the Naxi
culture originated.
The village's name comes
from the white rock
formations shaped like
small rice terraces
located just above the
town. Another 3-4 hours
drive west we will reach
Zhongdian, a small town
on the Tibetan Plateau.
At 3,300 m (10,000 ft)
above sea level (only
400m lower in altitude
than Lhasa) the climate
here is cool year round.
As we coast along we'll
enjoy beautiful mountain
scenery and Yi and Tibetan villages, like as we
ascend the Gyalthang
plateau. |
