Meili Snow Mountain Trekking Tour
|
Hundreds
of millions years ago, Himalaya
activity caused the formation
of the Tibetan Plateau and
Hengduan Mountains on the
current border of Tibet and
Yunnan. Among the towering
Hengduan Mountains, is the
famous Holy Meili Snow Mountain about
100 km long. The main peak
of Meili Snow Mountain is the Kawagebo
Peak(6740m). Every year, many
pilgrims come to pray for
good future. In 1902, an English
mountaineering team failed
to climb it. In 1987, a Japanese
mountaineering team failed
to get to the top, they failed
again 2 years later. Then
in1991, the Joint Mountaineering
Group of Japan and China tried
to climb it again, but this
time, they failed with the
lost of 11 Japanese and 6
Chinese members' lives. This
joint group came back in 1996
again but also failed. After
that, The Kawagebo
Peak became
a holy mountain to both Tibetan
people and mountaineers. The
beautiful glaciers and towering
shape of Meili Snow Mountain is quite
a sight to behold.

Arrive in Kunming, meet
at airport and transfer
to the 4 star New Era
Hotel in the center
of the city. |

Drive
4 hours from Kunming
to Dali. After lunch, go
to visit the Dali old
town and the 1200-year-old
Three Pagodas. |

Drive 6 hours from Dali
to Zhongdian(3300 m
above sea level), the
center town of Shangri-la,
then go to visit the
Songzanlin Monastery which was built by the
5th Dalai Lama 300 years
ago. Now, there are
still 800 monks and
3 living buddhas inside. |

Drive
6 hours from Zhongdian
to Deqin(3400 m above
sea level), on the way,
enjoy the beautiful
scenery of the White
Horse Snow Mountain(4250
m above sea level) and
the Yangtze river gorge.

Drive
2 hours from Deqin to
Xidang Village(2100
m above sea level) at
the foot of Meil Snow Mountaini,
by the side of Mekong
river, start your trekking
tour up the mountain
to Yubeng Village(2800
m above sea level).
Overnight at a local
tibetan family's house. |

After
breakfast, trek 8 km
to visit the Holy Spring
Waterfall(3500 m above
sea level), and the
big footprint left by
a Tibetan god. After
a picnic lunch, trek
back to Yubeng Village.

breakfast, trek down
the mountain to Xidang
Village, after lunch,
trek up the mountain
from another route to
Mingyong Village(2200
m above sea level).
Stay at the Mingyong
Cottage which is a simple
guesthouse. |

breakfast, continue
trek up to the glacier
area, enjoy the breathtaking
view of the main peak(6740
m above sea level),
after visit the Prince
Lamasery beside the
glacier, trek down the
mountain and drive back
to Deqin. |

Drive
from Deqin to Zhongdian,
on the way, visit the
Dongzulin Monastery and
the Napa Lake nature reserve. |

Drive
4 hours from Zhongdian
to Lijiang, on the way,
sightseeing at the famous
Tiger-leaping Gorge which
is one of the deepest
gorges in the world. Upon
arriving Lijiang, check
in the 3 star Grand Lijiang
Hotel which located at
the entrance to the old
town, then stroll to visit
the square market in the
center of the old town.
At night, enjoy the Naxi
Classical Music which
is a very important part
of China classical music. |

Relax
in Lijiang old town in
the morning. After lunch,
take a flight back to
Kunming, check in the
New Era Hotel. |

a relaxed breakfast in
your hotel, go to visit
the Flower & Bird
Market in the old part
of the city, then transfer
to the airport and hug
you goodbye. |
