17 Days Yunnan Trekking Tour

Yunnan is situated in the southwest corner of China, borders Tibet, Burma, Laos and Vietnam, it has everything from towering snow mountain to tropical rain forest, so it is very rich in tourism resources. Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, is called the Spring City of China. Lijiang, a beautiful old town, is a World Culture Heritage. In this tour, you will trek through the Tiger-leaping Gorge, which is 3000 m deep yet only 30 m wide at the narrowest part, local legend said once a tiger leaped over across the Yangtze from there, thus got the name. You will also trek up the Meili Snow Mt., which stands 6740 m above sea level by the side of Mekong, border Tibet.

ITINERARY

D1	Arrive in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province. Meet at airport and transfer to your hotel.

D2	Take a morning flight to Lijiang and transfer to Grand Hotel. Then go to visit the Old Town which is a World Cultural Heritage, and the Black Dragon Pool which is a ideal place to view the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

D3	Drive to Qiaotou town, trek on upper trails of Tiger-Leaping Gorge to Walnut Grove(4 Hrs), enjoy the awesome gorge view with the Yangtze running down in the gorge.Stay at Woody Guesthouse.

D4	Trek to Heika(3 Hrs), a small Naxi village sites beside the Golden Sand River. Go down to the river shore(1Hr). Stay at a local guesthouse.

D5	Trek to Haba Village(5 Hrs), this is a beautiful trek aroud the Haba Snow Mounatin.Stay at Snow Sea Guesthouse where you will see the snow peak in the courtyard.

D6	Drive to Sanba Village, visit Baishuitai(White Water Terrace) which is the holy land of the Naxi Dongba Culture. Then drive to Luoji Tibetan Village. Stay in a local guesthouse.

D7	Trek along the Luoji River to Niru village(5 Hrs), a nice Tibetan Village with very low altitude and well-preserved primary forest. Spend your night with a Tibetan Family.

D8	Trek to Shudu Lake(6 Hrs), a pristine alpine lake. Visit the Nomadic Tibetans live around the lake. Transfer to Zhongdian. Stay at a 4 star hotel.

D9	Enjoy the exquisite drive to Deqin, the gateway to Tibet. Experience authentic Tibetan culture in this mountainous region. You'll spend most of your time at altitudes above 4200m. On the way visit Napa lake where Black-Necked Cranes spend their whole winter cycling around. Explore the Dongzhulin Monastery of the Yellow Hat Sect (the gelupas).Overnight at a 3-star hotel at Deqen.

D10	Visit Feilai Lamasary and observe the great sunrise above the highest peaks of Yunnan. Drive to Xidang village(46KMs), down to the Mekong River valley, walking on the ancient Tea Horse Road from Yunnan to Tibet and India. Hiking through primary forest to Yubeng(20KMs). Stay with the locals.

D11	Hike through the forest following the trails to Holy Water Fall(8KMs) where Tibetans get their knees down and pray. You will see some highland pastures, meadows and meet some nice local people. Stay with local family.

D12	Yubeng trek back to Xidang. Stay at Xidang hot spring hostel. Take a warm spring bath.

D13	Hike to Mingyong village(6KMs), stop for lunch at Mingyong Village. Continue hiking up to Mingyong Glacier(2600m) which is the low altitude glacier of the lowest latitude in the world. Visit the Prince Lamasary. Hike up to some distance on the glacier. Stay at Glacier Guesthouse.

D14	Walk down to Mingyong Village, drive back to Deqen. Stop for lunch at Deqen. Drive to Cichong along the Mekong River. Visit Cichong Cathlic Church which is built by French missionaries, and once served as the Catholic center of Yunnan. You'll have a chance to taste some wine brewed by Tibetan Catholic believers. Stay at the church.

D15	Drive along the Mekong, observe the big river that feeds Chinese, Burmese and Thai people. Visit Lisu ethnic people live by the riverbank. Stay at Qizong, a small town sites by the Golden Sand River.

D16	Drive along the Golden Sand River to the Stone Drum Town where the big river makes its great turn northward. Climb up to the Cloud Hill to get a whole view of the bend. Stay at Lijiang Grand Hotel.

D17	Take a morning flight back to Kunming and then connect to your next destination.
