Weixi Lisu Autonomous County, Yunnan Province
The Tongle village in Weixi County is known for a special ethnic dance called the achimugua, which is prevalent in the Tongle and Xinle areas of Yezhi Town and Weixi Lisu County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province.
Achimugua means "the Goat Dance", or "Melody Made by Goats", since the singing resembles the sound goats make. Actually, the dancing also imitates the movements of goats. It has something to do with the Lisu's historical nomadic lifestyle.
People dance the achimugua at every festival, and what they sing about varies according to the occasion. The sound of the achimugua echoing over the mountain valleys will leave every visitor with a lasting impression of the small, unsophisticated Lisu village along the Lancang River that is Tongle.
